Hey;
Are the post holiday blues a testament to the quality of the holiday or the crap work you have to come back to?
We spent a glorious ten days in the land of the long white cloud starting with a few chilled (literally) days in Christchurch. It was freezing. Even Kell, who popped down to visit, said so.
I didn't realise (a little naively perhaps) the state Christchurch is still in post earthquake. 18 months on and the entire CBD is still a complete no-go zone. A cool pop-up mall made out of shipping containers has been created, but the rest is empty streets, barricades, half demolished buildings and rubble. On occasion it was like walking through an eerie post apocalyptic movie set.
After Christchurch it was off to the ski fields of Mt Hutt for a great week of skiing, Bodhi's first in fact. Thankfully his first day nerves settled and he ended up being a demon on the magic carpet runs. He hasn't progressed to turning yet, but big smiles on his face.
Throughout the week, we sampled many of the region's fine runs and even more of their Pinots which put a nightly smile on The Lovely Samantha's face.
The weather just got better and better, so much so that on the final day i reached for the bucket list and did a day of heliskiing.
Couldn't wipe the smile of my face.
see ya,
Minas
